With school holidays on the horizon and sunshine calling, there’s no better time to discover the magic of a family flotilla sailing holiday. From gin-clear bays and colourful harbours to warm Greek hospitality and fun on (and off) the water, here are just five reasons why a flotilla could be your best family holiday yet.
1. Time Together – And Time to Socialise
One of the most rewarding parts of a flotilla is the balance it offers: quality time as a family, plus the chance to meet other like-minded crews. Kids make new friends almost instantly, and so do the grown-ups. Many of our sailors return year after year with the same flotilla friends they first met out at sea.
2. Activities, Games and Flotilla Fun
During the summer holidays, our crew go the extra mile to keep everyone entertained. Dinghy games, punch parties, cardboard boat races, and the legendary egg drop challenge bring families together in creative (and slightly competitive!) ways. Expect plenty of laughs and memories made along the way.
3. Stunning Bay Stops
Every day brings a new bay to explore – from snorkelling and paddleboarding to swimming in secluded coves or venturing into hidden sea caves. The Greek coastline is full of family-friendly anchorages where you can dive in, cool off, and enjoy the freedom of life at sea.
4. A Chance to Learn Together
Flotilla holidays are ideal for beginners and budding sailors. The calm waters of Greece provide the perfect classroom, and there’s no pressure – just the joy of learning something new together, guided by our experienced support crew.
5. Wildlife Encounters
Keep your eyes peeled! From dolphins riding the bow wave to turtles drifting by in the sunshine, the Greek Islands are home to some magical marine life. Spotting wildlife together becomes one of those unexpected highlights kids (and parents) remember forever.
Our most popular family sailing weeks are during the July and August school holidays, when flotillas are full of fellow families and the weather is beautifully warm (but still with a breeze!).
For families with younger children or first-time sailors, we recommend:
The South Ionian – gentle sailing, short hops, and plenty of beach stops
The North Ionian – fun mix of lively harbours and peaceful bays
The Sporades – a bit more breeze, ideal for adventurous families with older kids
